As the students of Arkansas move into the twenty-first century, it is becoming increasingly more important to become better problem solvers and creative thinkers. As they navigate into an increasingly complex, ever changing society, the fostering of cognitive growth is of ultimate importance. Gifted students have a special need for high-level development in thier multiple talents.
What is the Gifted and Talented Program? G/T is an educational opportunity for students possessing, or capable of developing above average intellectual abilities, high level of motivation, and creative thinking ability. Centerpoint Gifted and Talented Program offers a learning environment designed to meet the need created by these abilities.
How is the G/T Program organized in the Centerpoint School District? The G/T Program begins in Primary School. All of the primary teachers are certified in Talents Unlimited. Talents Unlimited is a teaching model which integrates creative and critical thinking skills. The students in grades four through seven are pulled by the G/T teacher. These students are provided higher level thinking skills through activities, projects, and technology, field based learning trips. Grades four through seven G/T students also participate in Quiz Bowl. Centerpoint is highly recognized for its strong quiz bowl program. The students in grades eighth through twelve are provided opportunities through teachers trained in G/T content areas. The students are given the opportunity to participate in Honor Classes or Advanced Placement classes.
